It’s a heartwrenching fact, but 15,780 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer every year. Although researchers continue to innovate with new treatments, cancer persists in taking young lives and is the leading cause of death by disease for children under 15. In September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month turns the spotlight to the challenges of pediatric cancer, a vital focus for the Eminence Kids Foundation and our mission to help children diagnosed with serious health issues. Established six years ago by presidential proclamation, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month supports children battling the illness and pays tribute to their families, healthcare providers and communities.
Childhood cancer is unique because the causes are largely unknown. Unlike adult cancers which can be caused by lifestyle choices like diet or smoking, childhood cancers appear to be caused by genetic mutation. For this reason, children with cancer most frequently suffer from leukemia, lymphoma and brain cancer, as opposed to the more common adult cancers which attack the lung, breast and colon areas of the body.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month holds special meaning to all of us at the Eminence Kids Foundation. Our charity was founded by the Koronczay family and Boldijarre Koronczay, who suffered from childhood leukemia himself. After beating the odds and surviving cancer, Boldijarre and his family wanted to give back and dedicate resources to kids who suffer from serious childhood illnesses. Inspired by the organic nutrition that helped Boldijarre triumph over leukemia, the Eminence Kids Foundation donates healthy organic food to six locations around the world.
In September, we not only mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, but we are also proud to announce that our charity has won the International Spa Association (ISPA) Innovate Award at the 2018 ISPA Conference and Expo. Voted by spa professionals and ISPA members, the honor celebrates the Eminence Kids Foundation and our philanthropic efforts. “I have dedicated my life to the spa industry and the organic skincare movement,” says Boldijarre. “Being granted this award is extremely humbling and it makes all of the late nights, sacrifices, and thousands of miles spent on the road each year truly worth every second. I am grateful beyond words that the spa industry has recognized the efforts of the Eminence Kids Foundation.”
Our Supportive Partners
We would not have been able to support children suffering from cancer without the dedication and loyalty of our partner spas who have championed us every step of the way. We are honored to win their incredible support as we continue to grow and help thousands of children worldwide. Here are a few of the heartfelt reflections that we have received over the years:
“My heart goes out to these kids. Kids – depending what they eat – makes them feel good or bad… I wish every hospital on the planet had this program.” – Spa Chappelle
“We take great pride in giving back to our community and those who support our successes. Each year we try to support one major cause either locally or with our Canadian spa partners. The Eminence Kids Foundation appealed to us due to its originality, the fact that it is privately funded, and that the meals are prepared by Eminence team members who are generously donating their time to do so. ” – The Spa West 9th Street
“I just love what Eminence Kids represents.” – Spa at Shula’s
